TruePosition, Verizon Wireless complete testing

BEDMINSTER, N.J.-TruePosition Inc. and Verizon Wireless have successfully completed testing TruePosition’s Wireless Location System in Manhattan, New York.

The testing demonstrated sub-100 meter location results in a variety of indoor, outdoor, pedestrian and moving-vehicle scenarios.

“Manhattan proves to be a challenging environment for radio propagation and this trial serves as an important step as we being preparations to meet the [Federal Communications Commission enhanced] 911 mandate,” said Ted Hoffman, Verizon Wireless vice president of technology development.

Verizon also completed a second successful field test of Allen Telecom Inc.’s Geometrix wireless E911 caller location system, which was designed to meet the FCC Phase II requirements for E911 location information.

The trial, conducted in Northern Virginia’s Reston/ Dulles area, covered residential zones interspersed with low- to high-rise office complexes, malls and a town center.
