Two large conglomerates have created new business units geared toward helping different segments of the wireless industry.
During this week at GSMA World Mobile Congress in Barcelona, Hewlett-Packard Co. announced its plans for HP Communications and Media Solutions, and Accenture has launched its Mobility Operated Services.
HP’s venture has been created to address the needs of service providers, network equipment suppliers and media companies.
Accenture’s focus is to help wireless providers and enterprises easily and cost-effectively develop and deploy new, revenue-generating mobile applications to their customers.
To create the new division, HP has consolidated the company’s telecom and digital content management software with industry-specific professional service capabilities. The new unit is expected to accelerate solution development and streamline the delivery of solutions to help communications and media industry customers compete more effectively in a fast-changing market.
“Our telecom and media customers will see more innovation, faster deployment and more flexibility in the way they take advantage of HP solutions and services,” said Erwan Menard, HP VP and general manager, said in a statement.
Menard also said wireless providers can reduce cost and risk by utilizing the new business unit.
Accenture plans to help wireless providers and enterprises with its Service Delivery Platform, which is geared to reduce the initial high costs of IT and infrastructure setup associated with launching new mobile applications.
“Users no longer want ‘just voice services’ or ‘just cell phone coverage.’ They are looking for data services to enhance their professional and personal lives,” Andy Zimmerman, Accenture managing director of the new business group, said in a statement. “”Nearly every industry is looking for a wireless networked device solution.”
