Leap Wireless Inc. has acquired new wireless operating licenses in Omaha, Neb., and signed a definitive agreement to acquire other licenses in Peoria, Ill., as part of the company’s effort to end the year with as many potential customers as it can reach in small-town America through its subsidiary, Cricket Communications Inc.
The Omaha deal will add about 970,000 potential customers while the Peoria acquisition signed with Amica Wireless Phone Service, a BRK Wireless Company, will attract 466,000 potential customers, according to the company.
“From our sales people to our call centers, we are well prepared for rapid customer growth as we plan to launch Cricket service in six more markets by the end of the year,” said Harvey P. White, Leap’s chairman and chief executive officer.
