CLINTON, Mass.-WorldCom expanded its messaging portfolio with the addition of eLink, a wireless e-mail service designed for high-volume users, allowing customers to create, send, receive and respond to corporate e-mail messages and text messages without a telephone or computer.
The service, using a nationwide wireless data network provided by Motient Corp., transmits messages of any length using a handheld device the size of a billfold. Subscribers can use filtering, screening and forwarding features to manage the volume and types of wireless messages they receive on the device.
WorldCom said the service makes it possible for anyone with an e-mail address that complies with Post Office Protocol or Internet Message Access Protocol to receive their email messages wirelessly.
Customers will initially access the service using Research In Motion’s RIM 850 handheld messaging device. The eLink monthly service is priced at $60 and includes unlimited, nationwide use.
