LITTLE ROCK, Ark.-Alltel Corp. completed its purchase of wireless properties in New Orleans and Baton Rouge, La., from SBC Communications Inc., increasing its national wireless customer base to more than 6 million subscribers.
The properties, which operate as Radiofone in the New Orleans market and as Cellular One in the Baton Rouge market, are scheduled to be converted to the Alltel brand.
The purchase also includes three rural service areas in Iberville, St. James and Plaquemines parishes.
The purchase was a cash transaction valued at about $400 million.
