MENLO PARK, Calif.-Aeronautical and maritime telecommunications solutions operator BT A&M and InterWave Communications International Ltd. completed a successful technical trial of a wireless communications system providing full GSM coverage on P&O Cruises’ flagship Aurora.
The trial involved InterWave and BT installing a wireless application using scalable GSM network elements, satellite back-haul compression and transmission techniques.
The wireless network will enable passengers with standard GSM mobile telephones to receive and place calls when the ship is outside normal coverage areas. Customers who use the service will be billed at international roaming rates.
