BUCHAREST, Romania-The tender for the sale of a 20-percent stake in Turk Telecom, the wireline operator from Turkey, is close to ending without any offers. With the deadline of 15 September just a week away, no companies had registered for the sale of Turk Telecom’s stake.
Officials of the Turkish government must choose between extending the tender deadline or canceling the bid.
Turkey’s telecommunications board soon plans to award to Turk Telekom the second GSM 1800 license for the purpose of attracting bidders to the tender.
The GSM 1800 license was planned to be awarded at the price of US$2.53 billion, the same price given by the Is Bank and Telecom Italia consortium for the first GSM 1800 license earlier this year.
