BOSTON-Nortel Networks Corp. said it plans to acquire Sonoma Systems, a provider of high-speed integrated video, data and voice communications, for up to $540 million in Nortel common shares.
Nortel said the acquisition will enable it to effectively tie the bandwidth and power of the optical Internet to the access solutions of the local Internet.
The value of the transaction, expected to close in the fourth quarter, is contingent upon Sonoma achieving certain business objectives in the first year after closing.
