Price Communications Wireless, a wholly owned subsidiary of Price Communications Corp., signed its 500,000th subscriber and reported it added 42,162 net new cellular subscriber during the first six months of this year. Price also reported its average penetration rate is 15 percent, with a churn rate for the first half of the year of 1.9 percent.
SBC Communications Inc. is selling its wireless property in Indianapolis, which it acquired through its merger with Ameritech earlier this year, to AT&T Wireless Services Inc. SBC said the sale will resolve a spectrum-cap issue created as a result of its proposed merger with BellSouth Corp. BellSouth already offers service in Indianapolis. The property covers more than 3 million pops in Indianapolis and surrounding areas. SBC did not release financial terms of the pending sale, but said it expects the deal to close by the end of the year.
GeePS.com Inc., a wireless application service provider focused on location-sensitive, brick-and-mortar mobile commerce applications, has formed an agreement with SignalSoft Corp. for its wireless location services platform. GeePS said it will use SignalSoft’s local.info application to allow its brick-and-mortar merchant customers to communicate with wireless customers based on their location to a given store.
Times Three Inc., a subsidiary of Cell-Loc Inc., said it has partnered with AirFlash Inc. Under terms of the agreement, Times Three will use Cell-Loc’s technology to provide AirFlash with the real-time location of wireless devices, allowing AirFlash to offer portals and giving carriers the ability to deliver location-relevant wireless services to users, Times Three said.
U.S. Wireless Corp. formed a business alliance program to introduce location-sensitive applications and services to the wireless community, the company said. The U.S. Wireless business alliance program will provide application developers with interfaces to its proprietary RadioCamera location data platform and support joint marketing initiatives for location-based services. The RadioCamera network locates callers in metropolitan environments and provides continuous caller location updates, U.S. Wireless said.
