Touch America, Qwest launch PCS joint venture

BUTTE, Mont.-Touch America, the telecommunications subsidiary of The Montana Power Co., began its personal communications services joint venture with Qwest Wireless in Spokane, Wash., and Boise, Idaho.

Both companies contributed PCS spectrum licenses and have equal ownership in the venture. Touch America is carrying the PCS traffic on its fiber-optic network, and is providing voice connectivity and construction and engineering services. The product will be branded Qwest Wireless.

The two companies plan to launch PCS service in western Montana, including Butte, Helena, Great Falls and Missoula, early next month.
