The increase in mobile data and voice over IP usage has contributed to the growth of Chile’s telecom services market, according to IDC Latin America. The research firm released a report showing the segment posted 7.7% growth in 2011, reaching $6.3 billion.
The firm noted that fxed broadband penetration posted a .4% increase in 2011, reaching 11.1% penetration in 2011, adding that it expects the sector to grow past 13% penetration by 2015. Mobile broadband services hits 9.1% penetration at the end of 2011, with forecasts of growth to 20% penetration by 2015. IDC noted this growth will be driven by increased use of mobile devices, including tablet computers.
