Colombia’s public telecom operator, UNE EPM, has secured a loan of up to approximately U.S.$224 million (400 billion COP). The carrier signed a 10-year credit with a disbursement period ending January 31, 2013 and an interest rate DTF + 3.90%, with BBVA, Banco de Santander, Bancolombia, Banco de Bogotá and Banco Popular.

The award was made in accordance with the terms offered by each of the banks and with a different amount of participation from each.
According to UNE, the funds will be used to support the implementation of its business plan, expand telecommunications infrastructure and grow in the market.
In June, UNE announced that it had launched LTE services with an investment plan of $130 million in Bogota and MedellÃn. At that time, the company said its next steps included expanding service to Cali, Barranquilla, Cartagena and Bucaramanga during the second half of the year with the goal of reaching 180,000 users by the end of the year.
