Diginet building Latin American wireless broadband network

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina-The Latin American data-transmission industry has been surprised at the unusual technological and financial display of Diginet Americas, which plans to offer fixed-wireless broadband communications in some of Latin America’s largest cities by year-end.

Only a year after its first commercial launch, a group of investors-the largest of which is Goldman Sachs-decided to invest US$145 million in the company. In addition, Diginet Americas recently signed financing agreements valued at US$400 million with Ericsson and Lucent Technologies for the construction of Diginet’s networks.

“Diginet’s success in the acquisition of licenses and in the unfolding of networks is a clear indication of its capabilities to stand out within the fixed-wireless broadband market,” said Bengt Forssberg, executive vice president of Ericsson Latin America.
