Nokia develops WAP technology for data access

Nokia reported it is developing a solution enabling immediate access to mobile commerce sites via Wireless Application Protocol-enabled phones. Partnered with Hewlett Packard, IBM and Nocom, the collaboration hopes to bring the new over-the-air WAP solution to market during the first half of this year.

The new technology will be integrated into the Nokia WAP Server, an open server platform for mobile applications that, according to Nokia, lets companies maintain control of end-to-end security of access to data and customer traffic between the wireless network and the Internet, or their own internal networks.
