Intel, Ericsson cooperate on flash memory

CANNES, France-Intel Corp. announced it will provide Ericsson with next-generation, high-performance flash memory for cellular phones. The two companies also will work together on flash product definition for future wireless devices, including Internet-enabled mobile phones.

The deal calls for a three-year commitment by Ericsson to purchase Intel’s flash memory devices. In addition, the companies will work together to define flash products capable of storing code and data such as Web pages, e-mail, voice and music.

According to Ericsson, the agreement will enable the company to bring to market new products that support content and services that will be made possible by upcoming third-generation networks, combining voice and Internet capabilities into wireless handheld devices.
