HELSINKI, Finland-Nokia is taking the Chinese market seriously, announcing an agreement with SOHU.com and Beijing Mobile Communications Corp. to offer end users services covering sporting events, entertainment, news, stock quotes and shopping guides.
The three companies will jointly develop mobile Internet services and applications for mobile terminal users based on the Wireless Application Protocol platform and offer the services through BMCC’s network in a trial project.
SOHU.com, China’s leading Internet portal posting more than 6 million hits per day, will identify and develop content and application for the services.
“Innovative mobile Internet services will make lots of information and services available while on the move,” said Malcolm Arnold, vice president of System Business for Nokia Investment Co. Ltd. in China. “Nokia aims to cooperate with local partners to develop and offer more mobile Internet services for Chinese mobile terminal users. It will also be beneficial to Internet businesses, which will enjoy the extension of the mobile Internet, receive positive publicity and attracting more advertisers. All that is needed for mobile e-commerce.”
