Video: Global Wireless Solutions’ new network diagnostic app

Virginia-based Global Wireless Solutions specializes in benchmarking for wireless operators and equipment manufacturers, and this week the company launched an Android application to provide basic network diagnostic data from smartphones in the field.

While the app doesn’t provide the level of detail that comes with specialized network testing equipment, it is far less expensive and can be widely and quickly deployed, according to the company. GWS said it developed the configurable app in response to customer demand to provide “cost-effective, surface-layer performance analysis.”

Dr. Paul Carter, CEO of Global Wireless Solutions, called the app complementary to traditional testing methods, which GWS also provides. It can be used to benchmark both cellular and Wi-Fi networks and allows app users to get real-time performance on data speeds, network latency and KPIs such as signal strength, serving cell towers, GPS and others.

The company demonstrated its Mobile Diagnostic Application at Mobile World Congress. An iOS version is in the works.

Carter spoke with RCR to give more insight on the app, as well as a glimpse of what the app looks like and how it functions. Watch now.
