MELBOURNE, Fla.-Hoping to lower operating costs, Harris Corp. announced it will outsource its printed circuit board assembly to Sanmina Corp. The deal calls for Sanmina, an electronics manufacturer, to buy Harris’ PCBA manufacturing assets and inventory and to lease a portion of Harris’ manufacturing facility in San Antonio.
According to Harris, the deal will allow the company to reduce the level of future investment, and management can more effectively focus its resources on research and development, new product development, marketing, distribution and customer service.
“This agreement amplifies the commitment to our customers that providing new product development and product delivery is our number one focus,” said Van Cullens, president and chief operating officer of Harris. “Outsourcing our PCBA manufacturing will enable Harris to reduce our overall manufacturing costs, improve our operational capabilities and financial agility, and improve our time-to-market for new products around the world.”
Sanmina will offer positions in the company to the employees at the San Antonio plant when the deal is completed in early February.
