Aether Systems Inc. said it will license Diversinet Corp.’s Passport software to enhance the security of wireless e-commerce applications. The agreement integrates Aether’s wireless data enterprise solutions with Diversinet’s ability to capture digital signatures. Aether said the agreement will allow it to use digital signatures in current and planned wireless data service offerings like mobile stock trading, banking and health-care applications.

InfoSpace.com Inc. and Microsoft Corp. joined forces to extend Microsoft’s MSN Instant Messenger service to wireless devices by integrating it with InfoSpace’s Instant Messaging Service. InfoSpace allows users to route incoming messages to other devices when their computers are shut off. The company provides Internet infrastructure services to more than 2,100 Web sites.

Metrocall Inc. launched its MyOnTheGoPortfolio customizable financial information service powered by Strategy.com. The service uses Strategy.com’s Personal Intelligence Network to give customers the ability to receive stock alerts, personalized portfolio summaries and analyst recommendations on advanced messaging pagers, phones or e-mail.

BellSouth Wireless Data L.L.C., First Data Corp. and Lipman USA have teamed to offer a next-generation wireless point of sale solution, the companies announced. According to the agreement, Lipman USA will provide credit-card processor First Data Corp. with its Cell Trek Explorer wireless POS terminal, which provides service over BSWD’s wireless data network. First Data’s Merchant Services Corp. will then offer the solution to various businesses-such as limo services, pizza delivery, package delivery and home improvement companies-supporting both Visa and MasterCard.

Geoworks Corp. announced it joined the Radicchio initiative, formed to promote wireless e-commerce services. Radicchio promotes the use of Public Key Infrastructure for secure wireless e-commerce transactions. Other companies include Sonera SmartTrust, EDS, Ericsson and Gemplus. New members include 724 Solutions, Certicom, Mobile Solutions AG, Interclear, Setec and Vodafone AirTouch.
