Ericsson unveils `quad-mode’ set, offered by AT&T

LAS VEGAS-L.M. Ericsson introduced the R280LX quad-mode wireless phone, which covers the 800 MHz Time Division Multiple Access, 800 MHz analog and 800 MHz packet data frequencies, and supports data speeds up to 19.2 kilobits per second for Internet access.

The R280LX was designed for use with AT&T Wireless Services Inc.’s Digital One Rate service plan. It will be introduced to consumers in the first half of next year and support a full array of AT&T PocketNet services, such as e-mail, an address book, personal organizer, calendar and access to information Web sites such as ABCnews.com and ESPN Sportszone.

The phone is Internet-enabled by Phone.com Inc.’s UP.Browser microbrowser, UP.Link server and also incorporates Tegic Communication Inc.’s T9 Text Input software for easy word entry.

The R280LX offers up to four hours of talk time and 135 hours of standby time, and comes in a silver alloy finish, said Ericsson.
