SIEMENS GAINS MOROCCO GSM CONTRACT

MUNICH-Siemens AG announced it won a contract to provide Global System for Mobile communications 900 MHz infrastructure equipment to Medi Telecom, the second GSM operator in Morocco. The contract is valued at more than US$100 million.

Medi Telecom, which received its license in August, is owned 34.5-percent each by Portugal Telecom and Telefonica, as well as by the Moroccan bank BMCE and Afriquia groups, according to Siemens.
