AMSC LOSS GROWS, REVENUES SLIP

RESTON, Va.-American Mobile Satellite Corp. reported a third-quarter net loss of $66 million, or $1.45 per share, compared with a loss of $39.4 million, or $1.24 per share, for the same period a year ago.

Subscribers on the company’s network increased 32 percent to total 131,000 during the last year, the company said, much of which was attributed to the deployment of a contract with United Parcel Service.

Total revenues for the quarter fell by 5 percent to $23 million from $21.8 million reported for third-quarter 1998.
