ERICSSON, NOKIA MAKE GSM 400 CALL

STOCKHOLM, Sweden-The first official mobile call on the Global System for Mobile communications 400 frequency band was made during a GSM 400 conference in Budapest, Hungary, according to L.M. Ericsson.

The equipment used to perform the call was Ericsson prototype infrastructure and Nokia dual-band GSM 400 prototype handsets.

The first GSM 400 call is an important milestone in the progress of extending GSM with the new frequency band at 400 MHz, said Ericsson. Extending GSM with a fourth frequency band will be a cost-efficient way to provide improved coverage, and it will offer Nordic Mobile Telephone system operators a logical way to introduce digital services and international roaming, said the company.
