KOREAN FIRM TO MAKE PAGER USING OMNIVOICE TECHNOLOGY

SAN DIEGO – OmniVoice Technologies Inc. announced that Wide Telecom in Korea will produce a voice pager using OmniVoice’s VoiceOver technology.

Wide Telecom is the second manufacturer to license OmniVoice’s technology to build a pager capable of receiving, storing and playing compressed voice messages sent over a FLEX network, said the company.

The new pager, called Manox Voice, plays messages through a small speaker in the pager. Users listen to the messages in the caller’s own voice by either holding the pager to their ear or by attaching earphones.

“The voice compression technology OmniVoice provides has opened up great potential in the Korean paging market by creating an affordable method of wireless voice messaging,” said J.M. Kim, president and chief executive officer of Wide. “In Korea, it is especially beneficial because the challenges created by the many diverse dialects and text character limitations are avoided.”
