AT&T CHAIR ELECTED TO BUSINESS COUNCIL

WASHINGTON-AT&T Corp. said Chairman C. Michael Armstrong was elected head of the U.S.-Japan Business Council, a 75-member group that promotes improved business and economic ties between the two countries.

Armstrong also chairs the President’s Export Council, which advises the administration on trade matters. Several months back, the council urged the United States against taking retaliatory action against the European Union for locking out American-made Code Division Multiple Access wireless technology.

AT&T uses Time Division Multiple Access technology in mobile phones manufactured by Finland’s Nokia Corp., Sweden’s L.M. Ericsson, Motorola Inc. and others.
