WASHINGTON-Swisscom, Switzerland’s primary telephone company, is marketing its international prepaid roaming solution to service providers in North America. The service is based on the company’s subscriber identity module card application platform.
Gordon Taylor, director, mobile, for Swisscom North America, said the prepaid solution handles call charges in a secure manner by verifying remaining balances and monitoring costs.
“Particular attention has been given to convenience of use. Prepaid customers simply dial a three-digit prefix and the target number. Within seconds, available credit is verified and a call back is made to the customer so that the connection can be billed,” Taylor said. “As a convenience, remaining credit is displayed on the handset.”
Several options, including scratch cards, are available to reload a customer’s prepaid balance, said Taylor. In the fall, reloads via credit cards also will be available.
