WASHINGTON-The Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association’s board of directors elected new officers for fiscal-year 2000 at its first meeting June 8.
The new officers for the board include Chairman Stan Sigman, president and chief executive officer for SBC Wireless; Vice Chairman Andrew Sukawaty, CEO of Sprint Spectrum L.P.; Secretary Richard P. Ekstrand, president and CEO of Rural Cellular Corp.; Treasurer H. Donald Nelson, president and CEO of U.S. Cellular; and Chairman Emeritus John W. Stanton, CEO of Western Wireless Corp.
Sigman, CTIA’s new chairman of the board, is responsible for all of SBC’s domestic wireless operations, including Cellular One, Pacific Bell Wireless, Nevada Bell Wireless, Southwestern Bell Wireless and SNET Wireless.
He began his career with Southwestern Bell Telephone as a stockman in Hereford, Texas, in 1965. Prior to becoming SBC Wireless’ president and CEO in 1995, Sigman was executive vice president in charge of international cellular markets, international ventures and product line development.
