RELTEC ADOPTS MARCONI MONIKER

CLEVELAND-Reltec Corp. officially adopted Marconi Communications’ corporate name, logo, signage and letterhead, said Marconi, establishing a North American operator for the United Kingdom-based company.

In March, General Electric Co. plc acquired Cleveland-based Reltec for $2.1 billion. GEC subsequently merged Reltec into its wholly owned subsidiary, Marconi Communications. The expanded company has a work force of 25,000 people, including 6,600 who worked for Reltec.

Dudley Sheffler, president, North America, Marconi Communications, said the integration “opens up global markets for our Access products and brings new, exciting products from Europe into the North American markets.”

Marconi’s North American operations market products and services to telephone and cable companies to help them maintain and upgrade the local loop, which includes the last mile to the end user. Marconi Communications’ business focuses mainly on the transmission portion, where a communications signal originates and is routed to the appropriate local loop, said the company.
