GUANGZHOU, China-Motorola Inc.’s Network Solutions Sector announced it won two contracts valued at a total of $100 million to expand the digital Global System for Mobile communications 900 and 1800 cellular networks for China’s Hunan Posts and Telecommunications Administration. China Unicom also awarded Motorola NSS two contracts totaling $106 million to expand the GSM networks in the Guangdong province.
Under both contracts, Motorola NSS said it will deploy M-Cell base station controllers and switching equipment, increasing network capacity in the Hunan province from 1 million to 1.7 million, and from 400,000 to 1.13 million in the Guangdong province.
Concurrent with the GSM 900 network expansion in Hunan, Motorola NSS will deploy GSM base stations and Advanced Traffic Management software to expand the GSM 1800 network.
Both expansion projects are expected to be completed early next year, said the company.
