Buzzwire Inc. bagged a new leader, hiring former Newsweek president and worldwide publisher Greg Osberg to expand its network of content and carrier partners.
The Denver-based startup powers Verizon Wireless’s m.vcast – a mobile Internet-based video service that debuted in September – as well as viral video services for AT&T Mobility and Alltel Communications L.L.C. Buzzwire hopes to bridge the video gap between the Web and mobile, much as Osberg has helped bridge the gap between print publishing and the Internet.
“Digital media have fundamentally changed the content publishing landscape and mobile is the next frontier,” said Osberg, whose resume also includes stints at CNET Inc. and The Washington Post Inc. “This shift from traditional publishing to the Web has taught us a lot about adapting editorial and business strategies to accommodate new modes of consumer content consumption.”
Osberg replaces founder Andrew MacFarlane as CEO; MacFarlane will oversee product strategy and delivery as chief product officer.
