SAN DIEGO – Qualcomm Inc. said it has begun production shipping its integrated fifth-
generation Code Division Multiple Access chipset and system software for use in cdmaOne handsets.
The chipset
and software solution provides wireless data rates as high as 86.4 kilobits per second, said Qualcomm. Twenty-one
cdmaOne handset manufacturers have agreed to purchase the MSM3000 Mobile Station Modem chipset and/or system
software, said the company. Eight manufacturers from Japan, 11 from Korea, one from Taiwan and one from the
United States actively are designing phones, with several already receiving production quantities.
Qualcomm also
announced it has shipped more than 30 million Mobile Station Modem chips to customers worldwide.
