ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill.-Motorola Inc. said Russia’s largest Global System for Mobile
communications operator, ZAO Mobile TeleSystems, awarded Motorola’s Cellular Infrastructure Group two contracts
for the supply of GSM network infrastructure.
The first contract is to expand the existing GSM 900 network, and
the second is to implement Russia’s first dual-band GSM cellular communications network.
According to Motorola,
the existing GSM 900 network will be enhanced in Moscow, and along the major route to Sheremetievo Airport. Phase
II of the contract, slated to begin in 1999, installs GSM1800 MHz capacity within Moscow’s outer ring road.
