SEATTLE-Xypoint Corp., a provider of wireless intelligent network services for enhanced 911, asked the Federal Communications Commission to condition the mergers of SBC Communications and Ameritech Corp. and Bell Atlantic Corp. and GTE Corp. on providing access to wireless E911 service.
Xypoint issued the request in comments to the FCC and urged Chairman William Kennard to monitor the compliance of local exchange carriers’ obligations to unbundle their E911 networks. The company said the failure of SBC and Bell Atlantic to allow access to the E911 networks has blocked the availability of wireless E911 services.
“We are deeply concerned about SBC and Bell Atlantic’s denial of access to E911 service for wireless customers, and our fear is that without FCC oversight, the quality partnerships we now enjoy with Ameritech and GTE may be endangered if the mergers move forward,” said Ken Arneson, president and chief executive officer of Xypoint.
