STOCKHOLM-L.M. Ericsson said it signed a Global System for Mobile communications expansion contract with Guangxi Post and Telecommunication Administration, valued at $160 million.
Ericsson said Guangxi PTA began the first of seven expansions on the Total Access Communications System and GSM cellular networks in 1992. Guangxi PTA began implementing the eighth phase of the expansion plan earlier this year.
Upon completion, the total network will expand to 1.6 million people from the current 800,000. According to Stephen Yeung, executive vice president of Ericsson (China) Co. Ltd., Guangxi PTA also will introduce a new range of services.
