FCC EXPANDS ULS TO CELLULAR

WASHINGTON-The Federal Communications Commission’s Wireless Telecommunications Bureau will begin immediately using the Universal Licensing System for all licensing activity in the cellular radiophone service.

Use of ULS for the cellular service is part of the wireless bureau’s ongoing phased development of ULS. ULS already is being used for all post-auction licensing since the 800 MHz specialized mobile radio auction. Additionally, paging, personal communications services, wireless communications services and the offshore radiophone service all use ULS.

As part of the conversion process, all existing cellular licensing data will be transferred to the ULS database and all cellular applications filed going forward will be entered into the ULS database and processed through the new system. Cellular licensing data will be available to the public via ULS and no longer will be updated in the pre-ULS cellular database.
