NEXTEL BATTLES WITH INTEK FOR 220 MHZ LICENSES

Nextel 220 License Acquisition Co. and Intek License Acquisition Corp. appear to be in a fierce bidding battle for licenses in the 220 MHz (220-222 MHz) band.

Nextel had expected to be an active participant since it had made an upfront payment of more than $5 million, making it eligible for 5.3 million bidding credits. The minimum allowable bid in the 220 MHz auction is $2,500, which means Nextel is capable of capturing all of the licenses.

As of the end of Round Three, Intek has bid more than $4 million for almost 2 billion pops. Nextel was the high bidder of Round Two, bidding $3.7 million for nearly 1.8 billion pops. Round Three netted 449 new bids and significantly changed the list of the top 15 bidders.
