MELBOURNE, Fla.-AirNet Communications Corp. was awarded a contract to supply a turnkey 1900 MHz Global System for Mobile communications network to Pinpoint Communications, which successfully bid in the D-block auction as Cambridge Telephone Co.
Financial terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Pinpoint will offer personal communications services in the McCook, Neb., basic trading area, which is a 6,600-square mile area including the Chase, Decatur, Dundy, Furnas, Hayes, Hitchcock, Rawlins and Red Willow counties.
System deployment is scheduled to begin during the fourth quarter.
“Pinpoint was ready to go with [Code Division Multiple Access],” said Pinpoint President Richard Shoemaker. “But the economic impact of AirNet’s GSM solution was too great to ignore. AirNet’s economics clinched the deal.”
