CTIA, BELLCORE, NENA SPONSOR E911 MEETING

WASHINGTON-The Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association, Bellcore and the National Emergency Number Association are sponsoring a meeting about implementing FCC Phase 2 enhanced 911 wireless location technology requirements.

The meeting, scheduled for August 26-27 at the Grand Hyatt San Francisco Union Square, will include live trials and site visits. Wireless service providers, emergency services, public-safety experts, government officials and location and positioning vendors plan to attend to review the state of today’s location technology, said CTIA.

The Federal Communications Commission has required the wireless industry to provide Phase 2 location capabilities within 137.5 yards by October 2001.
