Applied Cellular Technology Inc. formed an executive search committee to fill the position of president and chief executive officer. The committee, made up of several outside board members and Richard Sullivan, chairman and CEO of Applied Cellular, will work with an independent top-tier executive placement firm to locate and interview candidates. The company said it expects to fill the position by the end of the year.

RTS Wireless Inc. announced its Advantage Internet Gateway will connect Iridium L.L.C. subscribers to the Internet, allowing them to receive e-mail on their pagers or phones. Customers can send e-mail messages via their own e-mail system, from Iridium’s Web site or via operator-assisted voice dispatch, said RTS. All messages will be routed to the RTS system, then to Iridium’s network and finally to the customer’s pager or phone.

U S West Inc. deployed Cell Trace Plus wireless enhanced 911 services from SCC Communications, in Adams County, Colo., the companies announced. Now, when U S West Advanced PCS subscribers call 911 in Adams County, their wireless phone number and approximate location will be available to the local public-safety agency.

Cellular One Group said consumers recognize the Cellular One brand name more than other local cellular phone providers, according to its third bi-annual nationwide brand-awareness study. When asked to name companies that provide cellular telephone service in their area, 35 percent of respondents named Cellular One, said the company. AT&T Wireless Services Inc. followed with 25 percent; GTE Wireless with 11 percent; Sprint PCS, Bell Atlantic Mobile and AirTouch Communications Inc. each with 10 percent; BellSouth with 8 percent; Ameritech with 7 percent; MCI with 6 percent and Southwestern Bell with 4 percent.

Conxus Communications Inc. announced it has launched InFLEXion-based Pocketalk voice paging service in the greater New York metropolitan area. Additionally, Conxus President Bill deKay said the company has signed on more than 25,000 subscribers among all its current markets.
