ENGLEWOOD, Colo.-U S West Communications Inc. said it added features to its personal communications services handsets to give customers the benefits of their home and office phones.
The service, renamed U S West Advanced PCS, includes a dial tone and data mail services that allow customers to send or receive text messages directly to their PCS handset. Customers still have the option of assigning their home or office phone number to their handsets.
U S West launched the service for the first time in the Minneapolis-St. Paul market, along with St. Cloud and Rochester, Minn. Its PCS service already is available in Arizona, Colorado, Oregon and Vancouver, Wash.
U S West plans to deploy the service in more than 20 cities in its 14-state region and has roaming agreements in more than 700 cities nationwide.
