CELLULAR ONE OFFERS DIGITAL LONG-DISTANCE PLAN

WARWICK, R.I.-Cellular One of Rhode Island and Bristol County, Mass., launched its digital wireless network and is offering calling plans that provide for free long-distance wireless calls throughout North America, said the company.

The service also includes a rollover-minute calling plan, which allows customers to carry up to 1,500 unused minutes from one month to the next.

“Our customers say they are frustrated by other carriers who constantly add annoying nickel and dime billing increments to their wireless bill,” said Michael Paolella, president of the company.

Cellular One initially is offering the service throughout greater Providence and Newport, R.I., and it plans to expand its digital network next year to include all areas of Rhode Island and Bristol County, Mass.

Customers can choose from five calling plans that offer between 125 and 1,500 included minutes for between $30 and $150, said the company. As part of the company’s initial digital service offering, customers can trade in their current analog handset to receive a $50 credit toward the purchase of a new dual-mode phone.
