ALEXANDRIA, Minn.-Rural Cellular Corp. received regulatory approval and completed the acquisition of the Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York and Vermont cellular licenses, operations and related assets of Atlantic Cellular Inc.
The addition of Atlantic Cellular’s 73,000 subscribers and 1.1 million pops in a contiguous service area covering 21,000 square miles brings RCC’s total pops to about 2 million and expands its subscriber base to approximately 192,000, said RCC.
The operation will be independently managed as a wholly owned subsidiary of RCC, with operational headquarters near Burlington, Vt., the company said.
The cellular properties acquired include: RSA 1 and RSA 2 encompassing the entire state of Vermont, as well as the Burlington, Va., MSA; western New Hampshire in RSA 1, the northeastern corner of New York in RSA 2; and northwestern Massachusetts in RSA 1, as well as its long-distance business.
