SAN CARLOS, Calif.-CellNet Data Systems Inc. said it obtained the necessary approvals as a Meter Data Management Agent and Meter Service Provider required to serve customers in California’s open electricity market.
MDMA approval allows CellNet to read meters; validate, edit and estimate meter reading data; publish data to the MDMA server; and archive meter data. MSP certification permits CellNet to test, calibrate, retrofit, install, operate and maintain electric meters.
CellNet’s meter system automatically gathers energy consumption data every five minutes, which is transferred over the company’s wireless digital radio network, said CellNet. The company also is making the data available to consumers via the Internet.
CellNet is the first non-utility company in the United States to be authorized to prove these services independently, the company said.
