SEATTLE-Motorola Inc.’s Worldwide Data Solutions Division announced it will provide Airborne Express with a data terminal designed for single-handed data collection applications.
The HDT 300 handheld terminal is one component of a mobile data system designed to provide Airborne Express drivers nationwide with access to real-time information exchange of shipment pickup and delivery information. The device weighs 14.5 ounces, has an integrated laser bar code scanner and is able to capture signatures through an optional touch screen with digital ink capture capabilities.
“The HDT 300 terminal itself contains a unique, integrated non-contact laser scanner and it is very ruggedized, able to withstand a variety of environmental conditions our drivers face every day,” said Tom Zywicki, director of system development for Airborne Express. “The drivers involved in the selection process preferred (to other products) the terminal’s large graphical display and full alphanumeric keypad.”
The HDT 300 terminal’s modular design and scalable architecture make it capable of supporting a variety of data collection applications from simple to complex, and is designed for mobile workers in industries such as manufacturing, warehousing and utilities, said Motorola.
A system pilot is scheduled to be implemented by 150 drivers in St. Louis this fall.
