ERICSSON WINS RUSSIAN GSM ORDER

STOCKHOLM, Sweden-L.M. Ericsson signed a contract to install a 900 MHz Global System for Mobile communications system for Tatarian-American Investment in Finance, a mobile operator in Tatarstan, Russia.

Ericsson values the contract at $50 million.

When fully operational, the system is expected to support 100,000 subscribers.

Ericsson said the agreement represents the largest GSM system it has provided in Russia.

The company plans to deliver a complete GSM network, including radio base stations and MiniLink equipment.

Ericsson said it will implement the system in four phases starting in the third quarter.

The first phase is expected to provide service to about 10,000 subscribers in Kazan.
