In addition to $8.9 million AirNet Communications Corp. raised last year, the company announced it recently received $19.3 million in financing from a group of private investors, including a number of institutional venture capital firms. The funds are primarily designated to further develop AirNet’s personal communications services offerings.
Glenayre Technologies Inc.’s Wireless Messaging Group announced the introduction of a new paging base station designed to support Asian narrowband personal communications services system requirements for both ReFLEX25 and InFLEXion technology. The GL-T9521 280 MHz Linear Base Station features a 280 MHz transmitter capable of multiple channel operation and a receiver that provides reverse channel operation at 920 MHz. The station will support the deployment of mixed InFLEXion voice and ReFLEX25 two-way data systems this quarter, the company said.
Illinois Superconductor Corp. recently announced it has successfully completed the first operational field trial of its RangeMaster receive filter products in a personal communications services network. The test objectives included evaluating RangeMaster’s in-building penetration, portable subscriber performance enhancements and range extension benefits. The RangeMaster filter met all the performance goals in areas such as cell range, bit error and frame error rates in the PCS digital network, according to the company. RangeMaster combines Illinois Superconductor’s SpectrumMaster superconducting receive filter technology benefits provided by cryogenically cooled low noise amplifiers.
Paging Network Inc. announced it has entered a strategic partnership with The Golf Channel to create and deliver a golf information service to PageNet customers. Subscribers will have to pay a separate monthly fee for the service. Specific pricing and further details of the deal were not announced. PageNet and The Golf Channel will promote the offering jointly, PageNet said. The Golf Channel is a 24-hour television network devoted to golf programming such as tour competitions, instruction, news shows, golf talk shows and celebrity interviews.
