Nextel Communications Inc. has purchased multiple Business Support and Control System software product licenses from LHS Group Inc. initially to support Nextel’s international operators in Argentina, Brazil, Mexico and the Philippines, according to LHS.
In addition to billing services, Nextel will use the LHS system for the capture of customer data, activation of phones, discounts and promotions, call rating, fleet management, and bill processing, said LHS.
“Because BSCS supports multiple telecommunications standards, it is the ideal solution to support our iDEN (integrated Digital Enhanced Network) offering,” said Mike Ozburn, Nextel’s vice president and chief information officer. “BSCS was also attractive internationally because of its multiple language and currency capability.”
Back on the home front, Nextel also has renewed its existing service bureau arrangement-for billing and customer care-in the U.S. by signing a five-year contract with ITDS Intelicom Services Inc., a subsidiary of International Telecommunication Data Systems Inc.
