NEW YORK – Price Communications Corp. announced its new subsidiary, Price Communications Wireless – formerly Palmer Wireless – poster 19,296 net subscriber additions during the fourth quarter, bringing its total customer base to 310,000 at the end of last year.
The net customer adds during the last quarter of 1997 represent a 31-percent increase compared with the same quarter of 1996. Figures for both quarters exclude subscribers of Palmer Wireless’ Fort Myers, Fla., metropolitan statistcal area and Georgia-1 rural service area, which Price sold after it bought Palmer last year.
“We will continue to seek accretive acquisitions both adjacent to our existing (3.3 million) `pop’ cluster and in other cellular areas,” said Robert Price, president of Price Communications Corp.
Price also said the carrier, which has a fully digital network, has signed or is close to inking roaming agreements with “many” personal communications services providers, including AT&T Wireless Services Inc. in its Atlanta license area.
“When PCS users are in our rural and semi-rural markets they can convert their PCS phone from a `walking around phone’ to a true wireless instrument, to our benefit,” Price said.
