MILPITAS, Calif.-LSI Logic Corp. announced the availability of what it calls the industry’s first programmable single-chip Global System for Mobile communications baseband solution.
The GSM baseband processor architecture contains the baseband processing logic required for GSM 900 mobile terminal and related Digital Cellular System 1800 and personal communications services 1900 mobile equipment, said the company.
LSI Logic’s GSM processor integrates mixed-signal functions and all-digital baseband logic into a digital Complimentary Metal Oxide Semiconductor chip, said the company. The programmable solution allows designers to customize the design in a RAM-based single-chip architecture, providing for rapid time to market, said LSI.
The architecture, which combines LSI Logic’s CoreWare design program with its G10 0.25 micron process technology, allows for easy migration to future generations of silicon processes, said the company.
The GSM baseband processor also is available in a GSM Development System, which is an engineering and development environment offering designers a development and debugging platform. The development system allows access to all of the relevant system interfaces and offers an Ethernet interface for software engineering, said the company.
The standard single-chip processor is priced at $15 in volume quantities.
