MIAMI-CellStar Corp. made an equity investment in Topp Telecom Inc. to fund distribution and facilitation services and to help Topp Telecom expand its prepaid TracFone internationally, the companies announced.
Topp’s prepaid phones are available in more than 5,000 retail locations in the United States, including more than 3,000 Radio Shack stores, said the company. The TracFone is programmed and activated by Topp speaking directly with the customer.
F.J. Pollak, president and chief executive officer of Topp, said it would “exit the inventory and fulfillment business and focus on technology, cellular activations and customer service.
“CellStar’s global presence should enable us to grow our business outside the [United States],” he added. Topp has more than 30,000 active prepaid subscribers with approximately 300 new subscribers added daily.
